Meet the weHartford Founders

This week, weHartford founders, Melissa Melonson and Cara Stellato were featured on WTNH – Channel 8 News. Ann Nyberg, who interviewed the two, was interested in hearing about what they thought Hartford had to offer to young people and why it’s such a great city to work and live in.

weHartford was first created in the summer of 2016, when Melissa and Cara founded their Hartford based creative digital marketing agency, Lumi Agency. After searching for the perfect spot for their quickly growing agency to set up shop, they landed on charming Pratt Street in the center of downtown Hartford.

Downtown was perfect for their startup – affordable rent, a perfect middle-ground between NYC and Boston, a tight-knit community with a city feel, and a plethora of like minded entrepreneurs and creative types (not to mention close proximity to unique bars and breweries).

But they soon came to find that other people in surrounding towns did not always share their love of Hartford, mainly because they had not come downtown for years. How could this be???

After only a few months of starting Lumi, the pair along with members of their agency team, became passionate about the idea of boosting the city through a website that showcased the best people, places, events and more in the Hartford area. And thus, weHartford was born!

So far? “We have experimented, we’ve done a series of happy hour events, we’re now looking to put together some larger scale events partnering with different businesses too, just try to get people who maybe haven’t been into the downtown Hartford area in awhile to come in and experience it and see it as it is now as it is today.”
